In 24 Hours
3 different s/n & vet trips - cats to ADOPT, to DCAS, tail surgery/spay at GEAH. Coordinating transport. Intake of 2 kittens each from two locations. Multiple phone calls. Emails to and from. Feeding and interacting with cats in TNR. Being told how wonderful we are for what we do. Being told how horrible and selfish we are that we won’t help one cat in one situation (because of the human involved). Finding out the information regarding a one-eyed lost cat, talking someone out of going to help that situation that already had way too many people involved, getting that cat’s information to one of our trappers. Ordering kitten food again. Ordering copier toner. Paying bills, balancing our checkbook. Planning next s/n opportunity. Trying to decide if s/n will help to tame some kittens. Last call before writing this – do we know someone who can get two kittens out of a tree in a park? That is what put me over and told me I needed to try to communicate just a portion of what is involved in all we do. FYI – looks like the Park District is going to help the kittens in the tree. Oh, yeah, and signed up for a dining out fundraiser for November 30th – awaiting confirmation. Not everything that happened, all in 24 hours.

Many of our volunteers support cat colonies and Rescue Pack helps us provide food to get them thru! Many thanks to Kim, Keith and DJ for transporting and unloading! |
Working With the Resources We Have
We are sending our backlog of fosters thru ADOPT and DCAS and fitting in a few ferals that continue to show up. For the most part we are not trapping currently and likely for the rest of the year. We are affected by factors beyond our control, hoping the general public can understand that there are many moving parts to this process and are we very frustrated just like they are.
10/17 – DCAS – 2 ferals, 1 male, 1 female. Yet another cat from Echo Pt and another from Darien. They will both be relocated.
10/23/24 – ADOPT – 4 friendlies, 2 male, 2 female. Adult female was pregnant when trapped, looking to be about to give birth, so we waited. For 3+ weeks, every day asking foster if Cliopatra had given birth yet. You just can never tell how pregnant they are!
10/24/24 – ADOPT – 5 friendlies, 1 male, 4 females. One adult female came inside the caretaker’s home and promptly gave birth to EIGHT kittens who all survived.
10/24/24 – DCAS – 1 friendly, 3 ferals, 2 males, 2 females. All 4 from Echo Pt.
10/24/24 – GEAH – 1 feral female, spay plus tail amputation. We will hold onto her until we are sure about tail and then she will go back to her home.
Total: October to date 92, 2024 to date 759, since our start 15,639

Ayla’s family adopted Bestus in September and Ayla was inspired to host an ice cream fundraiser – raising $89.25 for Feral Fixers! Clearly Bestus lucked out in becoming part of such a generous family!

Black Cats @ Halloween
Halloween can be a big risk to all pets – repeatedly opening the door with unsecured cats and dogs can put them at risk. Please be sure to restrict their access to the doors and buffer them from the unusual sounds that come with Halloween. Research has been done on how much danger black cats are in from people planning to do evil and it has been found that they are not in any greater risk at this time of year.
As always, keep a close eye on all of your pets during all holidays!
DuPage County Animal Service Making Huge Progress
DuPage County Animal Service has made huge progress in their reconstruction. Laura takes us on a tour of the progress with this video posted on their Facebook. This will make such a difference in the care of animals in DuPage County. Doing rehab while remaining open has been a huge challenge for them and they have done a remarkable job, using all the resources available to them during this time. Looking forward to an Open House when it is complete!
