Behind in my posting yet again...
On Thursday, October 3rd, Feral Fixers brought in 28 cats to the PAWS-Chicago Spay/Neuter clinic to be fixed. 13 of these cats were ferals while the other 15 were "friendly ferals". Super-volunteer Charli helped me pick up the cats from Tammy's and bring them to PAWS (Thanks Charli) while super-volunteer Dedra helped me pick up the cats from PAWS and bring them back to Tammy's for recovery and distribution (Thanks Dedra). And as always, super-volunteer Judy was at Tammy's in the morning and the evening helping out with all of the various tasks to get everything done (Thanks Judy!). All of the ferals were fixed but three of the friendlies were not - deemed too ill to have surgery. So a total of 25 cats were done this day.
There was no trip the following week (last week) because we were concentrating on finalizing our arrangements for the then-upcoming Celebrate 5500 event.
And today, October 17th, Feral Fixers brought in 29 cats to PAWS to be fixed. Only five of these cats were ferals while the other 24 were "friendly ferals" - almost all of them kittens rescued in the past few months and now in our network of awesome fosters, and now old enough to be spayed/neutered so we can put them up for adoption. Once again, super-volunteer Charli helped me pick up the cats from Tammy's and bring them to PAWS this morning (Thanks Charli!) while super-volunteer Stacy helped me pick up the cats from PAWS this evening and bring them back to Tammy's (Thanks Stacy!). And super-volunteer Judy was at Tammy's both in the morning and evening, helping to get everything done (Thanks Judy!).
Charli had a little adventure this morning with her transport. A minute or two after I had left and Charli had left Tammy's and headed to PAWS, I received a phone call from Charli saying that she had a cat loose in the back of her car! This happened to me once and it is NOT a pleasant feeling. I advised her to head back to Tammy's because with both her and Judy there, they could most easily resolve the situation. The loose cat was a kitten and not skittish, so Charli was able to corral it on the way back so it all ended well, but it was a trying few minutes to be sure...
One of the ferals we brought in today had already been spayed (but not eartipped) and three of the friendlies were deemed too ill to be fixed, so we had a total of 25 cats fixed today at PAWS.
The 25 from October 3rd plus the 25 from today gives us a total of 50 so far for October, 997 for the year (we'll pass 1,000 next week for sure) and 5,730 overall.
