It was a beautiful day for an adoption event on Saturday and we had a good turnout of potential adopters. We proudly displayed our new sign with the new Feral Fixers adoption logo in front of the Wheaton PetSmart store.

Two kittens were adopted during the event:

  • Vinnie was adopted by a nice family from Carol Stream. He will be a companion for their ~10 yr old son. He will also have an 8 yr old male Black Lab to pal around with.
  • Huron was adopted by a great family from Buffalo Grove. The mom works with Diane, who traps and fosters for Feral Fixers, and was referred to us for a kitten by Diane. Huron will be a companion for their 11 yr old daughter.

Two other potential adopters filled out applications. One for Cheyenne, who was doing a great job of showing her cuddly personality, thanks to her foster mom Laura, and another for either Annie or Jackie. I will be following up with the vet and landlord checks on Monday.

We also handed out flyers to several folks, including someone interested in Bacall.

We had 3 baby kittens (Marcy, Vinnie, Huron) and 9 older kittens/young adults (Alamo, Arthur, Cheyenne, Floyd, Colada, Annie, Samantha, Lenny, Jackie) in attendance. Everyone behaved very well and tolerated all of the hub bub in the store.

Many thanks to the foster moms (Marissa, Taylor, Laura, Pam and Judy) for bringing their fosters to the event. Special thanks to Marissa and Laura for hanging out during the event to help promote the kitties and give them some cuddle time. Marissa was doing her magic on Floyd and several of the baby kittens! Thanks so much to Judy for fitting in the delivery and pick-up of her kitties in-between all of her trapping, returning of ferals, and kitten care responsibilities.

We had a lean, but experienced and efficient set-up and clean-up crew. Many thanks to Laurel for coming to help with the set-up, the early part of the event, and then stopping by again at the end to help with clean-up (even though we weren't quite ready to start clean-up when you arrived!). Special thanks to Lauren, who hung in there for the full day and helped me out throughout set-up, the event, and clean-up, as well as providing beautiful blankets for the adopters, including some special patriotic red/white/blue ones.

Thanks also to Connie and Ted for doing a great job of promoting the event, to Debbie for updating and delivering the Adoptables Poster, and to Mike for updating the Adoptables Binder.

Our next adoption event is scheduled for Saturday, 7/9, 11am-3pm at the Pet Supplies Plus on Ogden Ave in Naperville (720 E. Ogden Ave.). It will be good to try out a new venue. We will only have space for 2 tables in that store, but I plan to stack a few of the smaller cages, so we can have as many kitties as possible in attendance. We will likely have more baby kittens available by that time.

In the meantime, I hope you all have a very Happy July 4th!

Thanks,

Sue
