Last Sunday, we brought in 10 more cats to the PAWS-Chicago Spay/Neuter clinic to be fixed. On Sundays, we are normally limited to bringing in ferals only. However, at the last minute, we received a 'friendly feral' from a hoarding situation in Downers Grove we are dealing with. Hoping that PAWS could handle this, we brought him in, along with 9 feral cats. PAWS came through (again) and was able to fix this cat - thanks PAWS!.
However, one of the ferals already had a spay scar, so had been fixed - but was not ear-tipped. Now it IS ear-tipped (and micro-chipped and treated for fleas and worms, etc. - the full PAWS treatment).
One of the ferals we brought in was a big tom named "Mc Big Mac". He was bleeding from somewhere, Tammy was unable to examine him closely enough to find out where the wound was. We asked PAWS to please find the wound and, if possible, treat it. They found a tear in his scrotum and stitched it up. We also had him tested for FeLV and FiV and, unfortunately, he turned out to be FiV positive and, in general, is just not that healthy. We can only hope that the treatment of this wound and time will heal this cat and let him live a mostly normal, full life. Thanks (again) PAWS!
Super-volunteer Jennifer picked up the cats from Tammy's and brought them to PAWS (thanks Jennifer!) while I picked them up from PAWS and brought them back to Tammy's for recovery.
With these 9 cats (10 cats minus the one already fixed), we finished the month of May with 63 cats. We have processed a total of 282 cats so far this year and 2,763 overall.
