The first adoption event featuring our spring 2022 kittens was held at our building in Lombard on Saturday, 6/25.  2 adult cats (Mahjong, Bestie) and 16 kittens (Acua, Accel, Hawkins, Partner & Pasquale, Chadwick, Chalupa, Charisma, Chaz, Sebastian, Seamus, Selwyn, Serafina, Moffie, Mojo, Mopsey) were the stars of our show.

Despite some rain showers, we had an excellent turn out of approved adopters staggered evenly throughout the event, as well as a few additional visitors.

6 adoptions occurred at the event to pre-approved adopters:

Adult

  • Mahjong - Adopted by a gal and her brother in South Elgin who recently lost their prior cat.  They also have a 10 yr old female black lab for Mahjong to hang out with.

Kittens

  • Acua & Acel - Adopted by a gal in Schaumburg as her first fur children.  She grew up with cats.
  • Charisma - Adopted by a couple in Evanston as a companion for their 2 yr old female cat and 1.5 yr old male dog.
  • Hawkins - Adopted by a family in St. Charles.  He will have two 1 yr old female cats to play with.
  • Mopsey - Adopted by a family in Bartlett as a buddy for their 19 yr old son.  Mopsey will also have a 9 yr old female cat and 10 yr old male Siberian Forest cat to buddy up with.

A hold was also placed on Bestie (our 2 yr old Russian Blue mix girl) by a pre-approved adopter.  He had to test out his allergies overnight, and on Sunday we completed the adoption paperwork.

8 additional adoptions occurred in June outside of the event which will result in a total of 15 adoptions in June.  The other adoptions in June included:

Adults & Older Kittens

  • Binky - Adopted by a couple in Aurora with another young male cat to be Binky's buddy.
  • Frankie - Adopted by a gal in Bloomingdale with a 3 yr old female cat.
  • Jacque - Adopted by foster mom Lisa in Wheaton.
  • Squash (our senior boy who underwent a miraculous recovery since his rescue) - Adopted by foster mom Christy in Bartlett.

Kittens

  • Acai - Adopted by a young couple in Villa Park with a 15 yr old female cat and an 8 mo old female kitten who desperately needed a playmate.
  • Achoo - Adopted by a couple in St. Charles with two 7 yr old female cats, one of whom is very playful.
  • Acura & Acre - Adopted by a family in Mt. Prospect as their first family cats and companions for their children.

Prior to that, 12 adoptions occurred since our last adoption event on 3/5. April and May are slower adoption months, but we focus on some of our harder to adopt adults and teenagers, so each adoption is very rewarding.  We are also very busy during these months filling our foster homes with the spring kittens that will boost adoptions in the summer months.

  • Alex - Adopted by a young couple in Arlington Heights as their first cat together.
  • Farrah & Fancy - Adopted by a couple in Elmhurst as companions for their mom.  Unfortunately, mom fell ill shortly thereafter, so the couple has taken in Farrah & Fancy, and are hoping they will adjust to life with them.  Farrah has already become friends with their resident male cat.
  • Fresia - Adopted by a family in Bartlett who had adopted Harpo last December.
  • Janey - Adopted by a couple in Chicago as their first cat and office buddy for the gal who works from home.
  • Kookie - Adopted by a retired and work from home couple in Naperville who previously had cats.
  • Livingston - Adopted by a man in Chicago with a 2 yr old male to befriend Livingston.
  • Maggie & Sammy - Adopted by a couple in Lombard as their first cats together.  The gal had cats growing up.
  • Mitsubishi - Adopted by a gal, who works from home, and her daughter in Kenosh, WI.
  • Roscoe - Adopted by foster mom Laura in Bolingbrook.  Roscoe (aka Ralph) is still bringing her lots of laughs!
  • Shipman (our awesome FIV+ senior boy) - Adopted by a couple in Chicago with a 4 yr old male FIV+ cat and 12 yr old cat-loving Yorkie.

With fond memories of each of these cats & kittens, we wish them well in their new homes!

Many thanks to the foster families who brought their kittens to the 6/25 event and were also able to stay during the event to interact with our guests and promote their fosters (Catherine, Cheri/Joanna, Dawn, Diane, Jennifer & Jeremy, Nancy, Rachel).

Many more thanks to the volunteers who made this event possible. Connie & Ted - For the excellent promotion of this event, which drew in the attendees. Thanks also to Sephie for creating new hand-outs for our adopters that include tips on introducing your new cat/kitten to your home and kitten-proofing your home - great job!

Given the large number of kittens who are being spayed/neutered in the coming weeks (we currently have ~120 kittens in foster care), we are targeting 3 adoption events for July:

  • Saturday, 7/9, from 11am-3pm at our building in Lombard
  • Saturday, 7/16, from 11am-3pm at the Wheaton PetSmart (63 Rice Lake Square) - this is part of PetSmart National Adoption Week
  • Saturday, 7/30, from 11am-3pm at our building in Lombard

Please mark your calendars and keep your eye on our adoptable cats & kittens, as we will have many wonderful additions in the coming weeks.

Thanks,

Sue
